Whiskey Sour

Welcome to Tuesday Boozeday!  A new post every Tuesday in celebration of making it past the dreaded first day of the week.  Whether it’s back to work, back to school or back to the daily grind of life after a (too short) weekend; kick back and relax with today’s cocktail and prepare to own the rest of the week.

Today’s drink:  Whiskey Sour

This one is an experiment…I can’t recall ever drinking a whiskey sour, but I like whiskey and I like sour (Margarita Lover Here!), so join me in testing this one.  I had to dig out my Bartender’s Black Book for this drink, but in the end, it’s pretty straight forward.  Whiskey + Sour Mix.  Done.  The recipe called for garnishing with a maraschino cherry, but gross.  I can’t stand the texture or the taste of them, especially when I’m comparing to fresh black cherries, so mine got a lemon wedge.

Not for the faint of heart.  Definitely a sipping drink.  The taste of the whiskey stands out in this simple cocktail, so choose GOOD whiskey.  I like Evan Williams, but any bourbon you prefer would do.  I would steer totally clear of any Rye whiskey because I don’t think the sour would go well, but I’m no mixologist expert so drink whatever you fancy!  I actually started to like this more as the ice melted and watered it down.  I’ll place it in my bar repertoire, but it’s not something I’ll drink often.  I prefer another two-ingredient whiskey drink….Whiskey + Coke.

Whiskey Sour

Servings 1 Drink

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 2 oz Sour Mix
  • Ice
  • Lemon Wedge, for garnish
  • Maraschino Cherry, for garnish (if you like them)


  1. Fill whiskey glass with ice and set aside.

  2. In another glass add shot of whiskey and 2 oz. sour mix.

  3. Pour drink over ice and serve with garnish.
