Lingering Summer Smoothie

Welcome to Tuesday Boozeday!  A new post every Tuesday in celebration of making it past the dreaded first day of the week.  Whether it’s back to work, back to school or back to the daily grind of life after a (too short) weekend; kick back and relax with today’s cocktail and prepare to own the rest of the week.

Today’s drink:  Lingering Summer Smoothie

I thought summer was over.  Yesterday I layered two sweaters and wore my favorite booties, and by mid-morning I was sweating underneath all that knit.  I admit it was partly my fault because I refused to take off a layer.  I REFUSED to give up on my outfit just because summer decided to rear its head again.  By the time I got home, I had resigned myself to changing my clothes the moment I stepped through the door.  Booties off, jeans off, bra off, leggings ON.  Since I was surrendering to the lingering summer day, I decided to make a summer drink.  A smoothie I would not have to share with my kids, because….alcohol.

I rummaged through my liquor cabinet and freezer and found everything I needed to make a Jamba-esque smoothie to sip on the couch and pretend to relax and cool off.

Full disclosure:  I bought that Captain Morgan Pineapple Rum just because of the celebrity endorsement.  Shameful I know.  But honestly, it tastes like summer and it is so good!

Lingering Summer Smoothie

Servings 1 drink

  • 2 oz Flavored rum (I used pineapple)
  • 3 oz Milk (use your preference)
  • 1 C Frozen berries, assorted
  • 1 Ripe banana (the riper the better)


  1. In a blender cup or pitcher, layer the [over] ripe banana, frozen berries, milk and rum

  2. Blend ingredients until completely smooth

  3. Optional step:  strain drink to remove seeds

  4. Pour into glass and enjoy
